With a rich, creamy texture, a shaken cocktail like the whisky sour is a delicious balance of acidity punctuated with smoky notes from scotch whisky.  The classic cocktail is ideal to mix for amateur mixologists as well as perfect to serve along with canapés, at gatherings.

What you’ll need

  • J&B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky (or any whisky of choice)
    30ml
  • Lemon juice
    15ml
  • Sugar syrup
    2ml
  • Egg white
    1
  • Ice cubes
    For shaking

Method

  1. Step 1

    Measure the whisky, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white to add to a shaker.

  2. Step 2

    Shake vigorously without ice to help the cocktail achieve a frothy top.

  3. Step 3

    Once the ingredients are combined, add ice cubes and shake well for 15-20 seconds in a rapid motion before straining into a serving glass.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Dry shake the ingredients for the whisky sour before adding ice and shaking again, to achieve the perfect foamy top.

  • If shaking vigorously does not yield the desired foamy texture, use a nitrous canister to create the egg white foam for visual appeal.
