Essentially the ‘whisky and cola’ cocktail, this variation of the Cuba Libre is an easy-to-make recipe that utilises minimal ingredients. Featuring a rare, blended scotch whisky, the concoction is ideal to experiment with when it comes to ratios, for amateur bartenders. 

What you’ll need

Serves:

  • J&B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky or any whisky of choice
    45ml
  • Cola
    150ml
  • Orange wheel
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Step 1

    Add all ingredients to an Ice-filled highball glass.

  2. Step 2

    Stir to combine.

  3. Step 3

    Garnish with an orange wheel before serving.

Tips & Suggestions

  • A spritz of fresh lime juice adds tangy flavour to the cocktail and can also be used to rim the glass to enhance citrus aroma.

  • Whisky, cola and ice can be blended to make a slushy cocktail instead of the traditional liquid version.

Other citrusy fruit juices, flavoured tonics or sparkling water can be used to experience a different version of a whisky cola cocktail.

Yes, a mint sprig can be muddled and added for herbal twist. Additionally, some bitters can be added for an extra flavour.

Glass-bottled cola tastes much smoother whereas, canned cola has a metallic note which alters the taste to some extent.
