Author: Ashifa Bano
Two glasses of rum and cola with ice and lime wedges on a wooden serving board, with extra lime pieces nearby.
Ingredients
Method

What is essentially a blend of full-bodied dark rum and sweet, fizzy cola - the Cuba Libre is a cocktail that originated in the Carribean islands. Balance the sweetness with a squeeze of fresh lime before serving with plenty of ice to let the acidity cut through the sweetness with every sip.

What you’ll need

Serves:
1
  • Captain Morgan Dark Rum (or any rum of choice)
    30ml
  • Cola
    For top up
  • Lime wedge
    1
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Step 1

Generously fill a highball glass with ice and pour in the rum.

  2. Step 2

Top up with cola and gently squeeze the lime wedge into the drink before garnishing it.

  3. Step 3

    Serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Cuban-style gold or aged rum can be used to make this cocktail for an authentic and richer flavour. However, using dark rum adds depth.

  • Add a few drops of lime juice to cut the sweetness of the cocktail and provide a tangy dimension along with a few drops of bitters to enhance complexity.
