J&B Rare Cola Twist Cocktail

Whisky
Author: Ashifa Bano
A glass of dark iced cocktail garnished with a lime slice and cherry on a cocktail pick, placed on a gold coaster with a lime and bar tools nearby.
Ingredients
Method

This contemporary take on a classic mixed drink combines the smooth and delicate flavour of J&B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky with the fizzy taste of chilled cola. Subtle hints of honey and vanilla from the liquor pair perfectly with the cola’s spicy sweetness, creating a seamless blend of flavour.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • J&B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky
    30ml
  • Chilled cola
    90ml
  • Lemon twist
    For garnish
  • One large ice cube

Method

  1. Step 1

Place one big ice cube in a short glass to cool the drink and reduce dilution throughout preparation and consumption.

  2. Step 2

Pour the blended Scotch whisky straight over the ice, keeping the spirit cold without disturbing the structure of the cube.

  3. Step 3

Finish with 90 ml cold cola poured slowly to retain carbonation and achieve equilibrium of spirit and mixer.

  4. Step 4

Stir slowly for 10 seconds, followed by the addition of a lemon twist for fragrance, before serving immediately without allowing the drink to settle.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Select a blended Scotch with subtle smoke; very heavily peated whiskies may overwhelm the sweetness of the cola and disrupt the desired balance.

  • Serve over ice in a chilled highball or rocks glass to keep the drink cold and fizzy without further dilution or loss of flavour.

FAQs

Scotch whisky is best matched with soda water, cola, ginger ale, citrus juice, sweet vermouth, and honey syrup. These mixers enhance the richness without dominating the whisky's underlying flavour.

Blended Scotch whisky or American bourbon typically goes best with cola. They have smoother, sweeter flavour profiles that complement the caramel and acidity of cola.

Whisky and water emphasise the nuance of flavour and aroma, which is usually good for sipping. Cola introduces sweetness and fizz, more suitable for mixology.
