Ingredients
Method

The Blue Moon Cocktail - although not as popular as other whisky-based cocktails - is an elegant libation that combines smooth whisky with the delicate sweetness of sherry. Using minimal ingredients to create a simplistic yet smooth drink, experiment with bitters of choice for more variation.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Johnnie Walker Blue Label
(or any other scotch whisky of choice)
    50ml
  • Oloroso sherry

    5ml
  • Chocolate bitters

    Dashes
  • Edible flower
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

Add all the ingredients to an ice-filled mixing glass.

  2. Step 2

Stir to mix, chill and dilute.

  3. Step 3

Strain over an ice ball in a rocks glass.

  4. Step 4

Garnish with an edible flower and serve.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Opt for large and clear ice cubes to chill the cocktail. These ice cubes melt slowly, thereby preventing the cocktail from diluting.

  • Bottled lime juice can make the cocktail appear and taste dull. So, always use fresh lime juice for the preparation of the cocktail.

FAQs

A Blue Moon Cocktail has approximately 22% alcohol volume. The potency of the alcohol is diluted by the addition of ice and shaking vigorously to combine ingredients.

Scotch whisky is made from barley and typically tastes fuller and heavier than other whiskies. Alternatively, Irish Whisky is made from malted barley and other grains, resulting in a much smoother whisky with a vanilla note.

Not all scotch whisky is peated, as the grains can be air dried or unpeated fuels can be used.
