Blue Rob Roy Cocktail

Whisky
Author: Ashifa Bano
Three assorted cocktails on a bar counter, garnished with fruit and herbs, with whole and sliced fruit arranged nearby and a blurred, warm-lit background.

The Blue Rob Roy cocktail is a luxury take on the scotch staple, made with the velvety depth of Johnnie Walker Blue Label; combining smoky, refined whisky with the rich sweetness of vermouth and aromatic bitters. Stirred over ice until perfectly chilled, it is finished with a vibrant twist of orange peel, which releases citrus oils that complement the spirit’s layered notes.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Johnnie Walker Blue Label (or any scotch whisky of choice)
    20ml
  • Sweet vermouth
    10ml
  • Aromatic bitters
    2ml
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange peel
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

Place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5 minutes to keep the drink at optimum temperature.

  2. Step 2

Fill a mixing glass with ice and add Johnnie Walker Blue Label, sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters.

  3. Step 3

Stir the mixture for 20-30 seconds until thoroughly cold and diluted.

  4. Step 4

Strain into the chilled glass; express the oils from an orange peel over the drink and garnish before serving.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Choose a fresh, premium sweet vermouth; an oxidised or low-quality variety will clash with Blue Label’s delicate character and dilute the drink’s flavour profile.

  • Preparation Tip 2

Always stir gently for around 30 seconds to blend the components seamlessly without clouding the drink or damaging the spirit’s layers.
