Ingredients
Method

The A.D.M. cocktail is a rich and luxurious drink intended to be served as liquid dessert. The name suggests its intended function - a refined, liquor-forward spin on the traditional after-dinner mint chocolate. Executing contemporary mixology’s use of uncommon components to produce distinct profiles, garnishes for the cocktail elevate its appeal - popular ones include whipped cream, chocolate shavings or drizzle, fresh mint sprig or even a maraschino cherry.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Smirnoff vodka (or any other vodka of choice)
    30ml
  • White crème de menthe
    7ml
  • Fruit-flavoured whisky liqueur
    7ml
  • Hot chocolate mix
    Tablespoon
  • Ice cubes (for shaking)
    Cup
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings
    For garnish
  • Mint sprig (optional garnish)

Method

  1. Step 1

Thoroughly chill a dessert, coupe or martini cocktail glass.

  2. Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine the hot chocolate mix with 30 ml of water, swirling thoroughly until the powder is dissolved and smooth.

  3. Step 3

Pour the vodka, crème de menthe and fruit-flavoured whisky liqueur into the shaker with the dissolved chocolate mixture before filling with ice.

  4. Step 4

Secure the top tightly and shake rapidly for 15-20 seconds, until the surface is completely cold and frozen on the outside.

  5. Step 5

Double-strain the drink, garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings or mint sprig and serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Before pouring the drink, use an atomiser to spray the interior of the chilled serving glass with a small amount of cold (or frozen) crème de menthe.

  • Instead of chocolate shavings, gently crush roasted cacao nibs and sprinkle it on top to provide a nuanced, slightly bitter and crunchy counterbalance.

FAQs

Crème de menthe is a sweet, minty liqueur. Despite the name, it contains no cream; the term ‘crème’ refers to the syrupy viscosity caused by its sugar levels.

A liqueur is a sweetened spirit infused with a variety of ingredients whereas crème (as in crème de menthe or crème de cacao) is a type of liqueur that contains more sugar, resulting in a thicker, syrupier texture.

Crème de menthe comes in both clear (white) and green versions; both varieties have an identical mint flavour; the green colour is just added for aesthetic purposes in drinks.
