Johnnie and Elderflower

The Johnnie Elderflower cocktail brilliantly exhibits delicate floral flavours, demonstrating how whisky highballs are becoming increasingly popular worldwide, particularly among skilled mixologists. A sophisticated yet approachable drink with a fresh and light flavour, the cocktail is ideal for people seeking an elegant, light-spirited whisky option.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Johnnie Walker Red Label (or any scotch whisky of choice)
    30ml
  • Elderflower cordial
    20ml
  • Chilled soda water
    105ml
  • Lemon wheel or mint sprig
    For garnish
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Step 1

Fill a highball glass with ice cubes and pour the whisky and elderflower cordial.

  2. Step 2

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 10-15 seconds to blend and chill the components without diluting them too much.

  3. Step 3

Top up with cooled soda water, garnish with a fresh lemon wheel or vivid mint leaf and serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • When stirring, use a long bar spoon to make 2-3 precise, slow rotations to incorporate the components without ‘bruising’ the soda water or compromising its effervescence.

  • For an elegant and long-lasting chill, use tall, clear ice spears or large column-shaped ice cubes that perfectly fit in a highball glass, melting slower than standard cubes.
