The Jitterbug cocktail is a vibrant and unexpectedly balanced drink that perfectly combines two spirits skillfully. Typically mixed with ice and strained into a chilled cocktail glass, it is ideal for summer gatherings, celebrations as a light, bubbly beverage, offering a refined appearance.

What you’ll need

  • Tanqueray No 10 gin (or any other gin of choice)
    15ml
  • Smirnoff vodka (or any other vodka of choice)
    15ml
  • Grenadine
    7ml
  • Fresh lime juice
    10ml
  • Sugar syrup
    5ml
  • Chilled soda water
    30ml
  • Ice cubes
    For shaking
  • Lime wheel or cherry
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

    Chill a coupe or martini cocktail glass completely by freezing it or filling and discarding iced water.

  2. Step 2

    In a cocktail shaker, blend the gin, vodka, grenadine, lime juice and sugar syrup.

  3. Step 3

    Pour ice cubes into the shaker, secure the top and vigorously shake for 15-20 seconds until the shaker is well-cooled and frosted.

  4. Step 4

    Double-strain the contents into a chilled cocktail glass and top up with soda water.

  5. Step 5

    Garnish with a lime wheel or cherry and serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • For an elevated, sweeter sip, moisten half the rim of the chilled cocktail glass with a fresh lime wedge. Gently roll it into fine granulated sugar for a sparkling presentation.

  • For an exquisite and themed touch, gently wrap a lemon twist around the stem of a cocktail cherry before dropping it in, resulting in a refined, fragrant and visually appealing garnish.
