The Sazerac

The Sazerac is the bolder cousin of the Old Fashioned. A tantalising tango of whiskey, cognac, bitters, lemon and a touch of bitters, it's the official cocktail of New Orleans.

Ingredients

2.1 units of alcohol per serve

  • 40mlBulleit Bourbon

  • 20mlCognac

  • 10mlSugar syrup

  • Two dashes of Angostura Bitters

  • Rinse of Absinthe

  • Lemon zest discard

  • Ice

Equipment

  • 1 x Rocks glass
  • 1 x Jigger
  • 1 x Bar spoon
  • 1 x Mixing glass
  • 1 x Strainer

Method

  • Ice

    Using a jigger, measure all liquid ingredients and add them to an ice-filled mixing glass.

  • Mix

    Use a bar spoon to mix, chill and dilute. 

  • Pour

    Strain into an Absinthe-rinsed rocks glass.

  • Garnish

    Garnish with lemon zest discard.

  • Grab a bite

    Get some grub in before or while you’re drinking – it slows alcohol absorption.
