Arguably the world's oldest cocktail, the Old-Fashioned is a deceptively simple blend of whiskey, sugar and bitters, and a must for any lover of dark spirits seeking perfection in a glass.

Classic Old Fashioned

Ingredients

  • 60mlBulleit Bourbon Whiskey

  • 3Dashes of Angostura Bitters

  • 10ml Demerara Syrup

  • 1Orange peel

  • 1Splash of soda water

  • 1Orange slice to garnish

Equipment

  • 1 x Rocks glass

  • 1 x Jigger

  • 1 x Mixing glass

  • 1 x Bar spoon

  • 1 x Strainer

  • Ice

Method

  • Pour

    Muddle sugar, one orange slice (optional), Angostura Bitter and soda water in a rocks glass.

    Add ice.

  • Mix

    Using a jigger, measure 60ml of whiskey. Add it to the mixture and stir slowly using the bar spoon.

  • Garnish

    Garnish with an orange twist.

  • Grab a bite

    Get some grub in before or while you’re drinking – it slows alcohol absorption.
