Ingredients
Method

The espresso martini cocktail made with Ketel One vodka is a unique union of rich flavour and sophistication. Renowned for its crisp, silky finish, this beverage elevates brewed espresso and the martini cocktail by combining them. Shaken vigorously with ice, the drink is crowned with a creamy foam and three espresso beans as a nod to its traditional serving style.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Ketel One vodka (or any vodka of your choice)
    20ml
  • Freshly brewed espresso, cooled
    10ml
  • Coffee liqueur
    10ml
  • Simple syrup
    5ml
  • Ice cubes
  • Coffee beans
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

Pour the vodka, cold espresso, coffee liqueur and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice.

  2. Step 2

Shake vigorously for 15 seconds to achieve a smooth, frothy texture with balanced coffee and alcohol flavours.

  3. Step 3

Double-strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or martini cocktail glass to eliminate ice shards and achieve a smooth finish.

  4. Step 4

Garnish with three coffee beans to add aroma and visual appeal. Serve immediately to relish a fresh espresso profile.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Use room temperature espresso instead of hot, to avoid melting the ice too soon and diluting the drink before it has been adequately chilled and shaken.

  • Shake for at least 15 seconds to create a rich, silky foam that keeps the espresso beans afloat for flawless presentation.

FAQs

The foam on top of an espresso martini cocktail is made by shaking the cocktail vigorously, which emulsifies coffee oils and air into a thick, creamy and velvety froth.

Yes, instant coffee can be used as a substitute, but it may lack the rich flavour and crema of fresh espresso, resulting in a less vivid or texture-rich cocktail.

No, using espresso beans as a garnish is customary but optional; they give a slight aroma and visual appeal without dramatically altering the flavour of the drink.
