A blue cocktail in a margarita glass with a salted rim and lime wheel garnish sits on a wooden bar with blurred bottles and lights in the background.

The Blue Margarita cocktail spins the classic drink with a dazzling azure hue and a vibrant, zesty character by combining tequila with the tangy notes of blue curaçao, delivering a bright, tropical twist. Vigorously shaken to achieve a crisp, fresh profile and a silky texture, it is best enjoyed as a summery brunch cocktail.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Tequila
    20ml
  • Blue curaçao
    10ml
  • Fresh lemon juice
    10ml
  • Sugar syrup
    5ml
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt rim and lemon wedge (optional garnishes)

Method

  1. Step 1

Rub the rim of the glass with a lemon wedge before dipping it in salt to give the margarita cocktail a tangy-salty flavour.

  2. Step 2

Add tequila, blue curaçao, lemon juice and sugar syrup to an ice-filled shaker to chill the drink and add a tart, sweet and citrus taste.

  3. Step 3

Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to properly cool the drink and achieve a smooth, well-balanced taste that combines sweetness with citrus freshness.

  4. Step 4

To remove ice shards, double strain into a chilled coupe or margarita cocktail glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lemon wedge if desired. Serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • When pouring, use a fine mesh strainer to collect any pulp or ice shards, ensuring that the blue margarita cocktail is always silky smooth.

  • Serve the blue margarita in a chilled, salt-rimmed glass for a subtle contrast to the drink’s citrus and silky tequila flavours.
