Lauren Mote's Rum Manhattan Cocktail Recipe

Rum
Author: Lauren Mote
A Rum Manhattan cocktail in a coupe glass with an orange peel garnish.

Global mixologist and cocktail writer Lauren Mote adds a modern spin to the iconic Manhattan - traditionally made with whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. Here, Lauren switches the base spirit to aged and spiced rum to bring tropical depth and complexity to the original formula. The rich caramel and spice notes of the rum blend beautifully with vermouth’s herbal sweetness, while aromatic bitters tie the flavours together for a smooth, spirit-forward sip that’s both familiar and refreshingly different. The result is a dark twist on a classic, sure to delight at aperitif o'clock.

Why use Captain Morgan for your Rum Manhattan recipe?

Captain Morgan is the ideal choice for a Rum Manhattan, as its warm notes of vanilla, caramel and spice mirror the structure of a classic whiskey-infused Manhattan, while adding a richer, rounder depth. Rum's bold character stands up to the sweet and bittersweet vermouth, allowing the drink to remain spirited and balanced, while subtle oak and spice flavors blend perfectly with the vermouth's herbal complexity.
