Margarita Cocktail Recipe

Tequila
Author: The Bar Team
A margarita cocktail in a coupe glass with a salted rim and lime wedge garnish.

The Margarita is one of the world’s most iconic tequila cocktails - a perfectly balanced blend of crisp tequila, zesty fresh lime juice and bright orange liqueur, traditionally served in a salt-rimmed glass for a hit of sweet, sour and salty flavours. Rooted in mid-20th-century Mexico and inspired by the classic “sour” family of cocktails, this simple yet vibrant mix has become a favourite at bars and home gatherings alike. Whether you’re relaxing on a sunny afternoon or kicking off an evening with friends, the Margarita’s lively citrus character and bold agave notes make it a classic worth mastering.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
3.4 units of alcohol per serving

Equipment

  • Coupe glass
  • Strainer
  • Jigger
  • Cocktail shaker

Method

Step 1

Using the knife, cut two lime wedges and use one to rub along the rim of the glass. Roll the rim in salt (either half or all of the rim).

Step 2

Measuring with the jigger, add the tequila, triple sec and lime juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake the mixture until the surface of the shaker feels chilled.

Step 3

Use a strainer to strain the mixture into a coupe glass, being careful not to get any salt into the drink.

Step 4

Place the remaining lime wedge on top of the drink to garnish. And enjoy!
