The Zippy’s Revenge cocktail is a very unusual shaken drink distinguished by the use of grape-flavoured powdered drink mix. Intended to be sweet and instantly recognisable, it is frequently chosen for its novelty, convenience of preparation and ability to provide a distinct, fruit-forward taste.

    30ml
  • Amaretto
    15ml
  • Grape-flavoured powdered drink mix
    1ml
  • Cold water (for dissolving powder)

  • Ice cubes, for shaking

  • Extra ice
    For serving glass
  • Lime wedge or fresh grapes
    (optional garnish)

Method

  1. Step 1

    Thoroughly chill a rocks or highball glass.

  2. Step 2

    In a cocktail shaker, combine the grape-flavoured powdered drink mix with cold water, swirling until the powder is completely dissolved.

  3. Step 3

    Add the rum and amaretto to the shaker along with ice.

  4. Step 4

    Secure the top tightly and shake rapidly for 15-20 seconds, until the surface is thoroughly chilled and frosted on the outside.

  5. Step 5

    Fill the serving glass with more ice and double-strain the beverage from the shaker.

  6. Step 6

    Serve immediately, garnished with a lime wedge or a few fresh grapes.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Shake vigorously in multiple directions (up-down, side-to-side, circular) for 15-20 seconds to enable complete dissolving of the powdered mixture.

  • Turn pure, unsweetened grape juice into ice cubes; use these as shaking ice and in the serving glass to elevate grape flavour without additional sweetness.
