Method

The Irish Whisky cocktail is a refined blend with a smooth, honeyed foundation that is enhanced by the tartness of fresh lemon juice. What distinguishes this cocktail is the Irish Mist liqueur, which is shaken to awaken each layer and served over ice.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Irish whisky
    20ml
  • Irish Mist liqueur
    10ml
  • Fresh lemon juice
    20ml
  • Simple syrup
    10ml
  • aromatic bitters
    Dashes
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon twist (optional garnish)

Method

  1. Step 1

Pour Irish whisky, Irish Mist liqueur, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and aromatic bitters into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes.

  2. Step 2

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds to chill and equally distribute the citrus, sweetness, and herbal flavours throughout the beverage.

  3. Step 3

Double filter the combination into a chilled coupe or martini glass for a smooth, pulp-free finish and to keep the drink’s purity.

  4. Step 4

To release oils, rub a lemon twist over the glass, rim it if desired, and serve immediately for an aromatic drink

Tips & Suggestions

  • Shake vigorously with ice for 15 seconds to properly merge the citrus and syrup, while softly freezing and diluting the whisky for smooth sipping.

  • Double strain into a chilled coupe or rocks glass to guarantee a smooth, silky texture by removing ice shards and citrus pulp from the finished pour.

FAQs

Irish whisky falls into four categories: single malt whisky, pure pot still whisky, blended whisky and single grain whisky.

No. Whisky designated as Scotch whisky must be manufactured in Scotland and spend at least three years maturing there, whilst whisky marked as Irish whisky must be produced in Ireland and spend at least three years maturing there.

Scotch whisky is noted for its deeper, heavier taste with layers of complexity, whilst Irish whisky is known for its smooth flavour and undertones of vanilla, which are frequently lighter.  Both are equally excellent; the best choice is determined by personal taste preferences.
