The cosmopolitan cocktail gained popularity for its structure and presentation, making it a frequently included option in bar menus and social settings. While there are multiple theories about its origin, the drink became widely recognised in the 1980-90s for its use of simple ingredients. Though its exact history remains unclear, the format of the drink has become standardised over time.

FAQs

It is not advisable to store the cocktail once mixed, as citrus juice and dilution from ice can affect the flavour and texture over time.

Fresh orange juice can be used for non-alcoholic variations, but it does not replicate the dry, citrusy flavour that liqueur provides.

Flavoured vodka may be used for variations but for a traditional preparation, plain vodka is preferred to maintain the original profile and structure.
