Blood Orange Cosmo Cocktail

Vodka
Author: Ashifa Bano
A Cosmopolitan cocktail in a martini glass sits on a white and green checkerboard coaster, with a large orange peel in the glass and an orange nearby. Two women sit behind the glass.
Ingredients
Method

The Blood Orange Cosmo cocktail elevates the original cosmopolitan with the rich, nuanced tones of the citrus fruit. While the original recipe calls for tart cranberry juice and lime, this version replaces the latter with a vivid blood orange syrup, which deepens the flavour profile and makes the drink sweeter, tangier and fragrant, providing sophisticated fruitiness. Its gorgeous crimson hue distinguishes it, making it a visually appealing and distinctly flavourful option for those looking for a creative take on a cherished classic.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Vodka
    20ml
  • Triple sec
    10ml
  • Cranberry juice
    45ml
  • Blood orange syrup
    15ml
  • Fresh lime juice
    10ml
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

To chill the martini cocktail or coupe glass, place it in the freezer or swirl it with ice water.

  2. Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, blood orange syrup and lime juice.

  3. Step 3

Fill the shaker with fresh ice and shake briskly for 15-20 seconds or until the shaker’s surface is well-frosted.

  4. Step 4

Remove the ice from the chilled glass, fine-strain the liquid into the prepared glass and garnish with an orange slice. Serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Taste the juice before making the syrup since its natural sweetness and tartness may vary, necessitating minor adjustments to the amount of sugar.

  • Avoid using crushed ice in the shaker since it melts too rapidly, resulting in an over-diluted drink before it has fully chilled.
