Ingredients
Method

The Baileys Salted Caramel Espresso Martini cocktail is a rich and sweet take on the classic, where the inherent creamy texture and rich flavour combine perfectly with espresso - resulting in a distinct, exquisite consistency that is different from traditional versions. This makes it an ideal drink for individuals with a sweet tooth, as well as for casual events when a simple but elegant dessert-like drink can be made with minimal ingredients and effort.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Baileys Original Irish Cream Liqueur (or any Irish cream liqueur of choice)
    30ml
  • Chilled espresso
    15ml
  • Salted caramel syrup
    10ml
  • Plenty of ice
  • Chocolate shavings
    For garnish

Equipment

  • Martini glass
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger

Method

Step 1

To chill your martini cocktail glass or coupe glass, place it in the freezer or fill it with ice water.

Step 2

Add the Irish cream liqueur, cold espresso and salted caramel syrup to a cocktail shaker.

Step 3

Fill the shaker with fresh ice and shake briskly for 15-20 seconds or until the surface of the shaker is well-frosted and the drink is thoroughly chilled and frothy.

Step 4

Discard the ice from the cold serving glass, fine-filter the drink into the prepared glass. Garnish with chocolate shavings and serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • If your espresso has good crema, pour it into the shaker since it leads to a fuller mouthfeel and possibly more foam.

  • Choose high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or more) for garnish; its mild sharpness makes for a pleasant contrast to the drink’s sweetness.

FAQs

The key differences are the additions of Irish cream liqueur (for creaminess and a distinct flavour) and salted caramel syrup (for sweetness and a distinct caramel note), which make the drink richer and dessert-like than a conventional vodka-based espresso martini cocktail.

Yes, you can recreate the essence using a non-alcoholic coffee liqueur, a dairy-free cream replacement (or non-alcoholic Irish cream syrup) and a premium salted caramel syrup.

To make it less sweet, lower the quantity of salted caramel syrup or use an assertive espresso to balance the sweetness.
