That's why I think jazz pairs so well with it - jazz makes you feel present in the moment, and when you're enjoying a good whisky alongside it, the experience naturally becomes slower and more immersive. As guests filtered into Milagro, the venue earned its reputation as the sort of place that holds your attention. Dark corners bleeding into pockets of warm light, textures somewhere between a jazz cellar and a private members' room. The kind of space where you settle into your chair and immediately feel as though you've been coming here for years. That familiarity set exactly the right tone for an evening built around two things that reward patience and attention: single malt Scotch whisky and jazz.

Then Anoushka Maskey took the stage, and the energy shifted completely. When a reimagined Love Story arrived, acoustic and warm and completely alive, the room didn't just listen. It responded. People sang along, swayed, caught each other's eyes across the table. The kind of spontaneous, unself-conscious moment you can't manufacture and can't plan for, it just happens when the music is that good, and the room is that ready.

What threaded it all together, the familiar sing-alongs and the exploratory jazz runs, the big moments and the quiet ones, was the same principle that makes a great standard work. A framework that makes space for something unexpected within it. Maskey understood that instinctively. The people understood it. And the room was entirely along for the ride.
