Introduction

Feel the rhythm before you taste it. Jazz and whisky share a common language—one built on tension and release, restraint and expression, and knowing exactly when to let a note linger. The Singleton 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky speaks that language effortlessly. Matured for twelve years at Dufftown Distillery in the heart of Speyside, it opens with honey and ripe fruit, followed by warm vanilla and a smooth, lingering finish that echoes the final chord of a late-night jazz set.

The four cocktails that follow are crafted in the same spirit of improvisation. Each starts with The Singleton 12 and riffs into notes of smoke, brightness, bitterness, and floral lift—much like a jazz musician transforming a familiar melody into something unexpected. From clean and understated to richly layered, these four serves are distinct expressions of one smooth, soulful rhythm.

Strange Berry Blues

Some songs stay with you not because they are easy, but because they are honest. Strange Berry Blues is a tribute to that depth. Strawberry and peach bring lush fruit notes, while a bright citrus edge cuts through with precision. Cold-brewed Lapsang Souchong adds a delicate thread of smoke, drifting through the cocktail like a shadow across a lit stage.

At the centre, The Singleton 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky ties every note together. Its smooth honeyed character anchors the fruit, softens the smokiness, and leaves a warm, lingering finish—rich, layered, and quietly unforgettable.

Jazz Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is a classic that rewards precision. Simple in appearance, it leaves little room to hide. The Jazz Fashioned builds on this timeless template with a golden twist: honey syrup replaces the traditional sugar, enhancing the whisky’s natural sweetness and drawing out notes of vanilla and orchard fruit.

Stirred, never shaken, the cocktail preserves the silky texture of The Singleton 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The result is smooth, balanced, and beautifully composed—an elegant interpretation of a classic, where every note lands exactly where it should.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml The Singleton 12 Year Old

  • 10 ml Honey syrup

  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters

Method

  • Add the Angostura bitters and honey syrup to a mixing glass filled with ice.

  • Pour in The Singleton 12 Year Old and stir for approximately 30 seconds until well chilled.

  • Strain into an old fashioned glass over a single block of ice.

  • Express an orange peel over the glass, then rest it on the rim to serve.

Cherry Take Five

Inspired by a jazz classic composed in an unconventional five-four time signature, Cherry Take Five proves that the unexpected can feel effortlessly natural. What should seem off-kilter instead finds perfect harmony—much like one of the most iconic pieces in jazz history.

Cold brew coffee, cherry, chocolate bitters, and a clarified chocolate milk wash come together with The Singleton 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky to create a cocktail of remarkable clarity and depth. Coffee brings gentle bitterness, cherry adds bright fruit and acidity, and layers of chocolate unfold in waves of richness. The result is a complex, beautifully balanced serve that evolves with every sip, revealing new notes as it lingers.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml The Singleton 12 Year Old

  • 30 ml Cold brew & cherry (pre-batched)

  • 3 dashes Chocolate bitters

  • Chocolate milk wash (to clarify)

Method

  • Combine The Singleton 12, the cold brew and cherry batch, and chocolate bitters in a container.

  • Add the warm chocolate milk wash and stir gently. Allow the mixture to curdle and then strain through a fine cloth or coffee filter until clear.

  • Chill the clarified liquid thoroughly before serving.

  • Pour into a coupe glass with no ice and garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino cherry.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml The Singleton 12 Year Old

  • 120 ml Lychee & guava soda
