Gin Basil Smash
One of gin's more modern subcategories. This cocktail was born in 2008. Followed by the Green Park cocktail in 2011. There is a lovely little micro category of delicious gin and basil drinks. What a pairing!
Ingredients
How many serves?
2.4 units of alcohol per serve
1
50mlLondon Dry Gin
30mlFresh Lemon juice
20mlSugar Syrup
10 Basil leaves
1 Basil Sprig
Equipment
- 1 x Tumbler glass
- 1 x Muddler
- 1 x Shaker
- 1 x Strainer
- 1 x Jigger
Method
Add
Add the basil leaves, simple syrup, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker.
Muddle
Crush the basil with the muddler until bruised - this releases the oils.
Shake
Add gin and ice to the muddled ingredients, and shake until the outside of the cocktail shaker is freezing cold.
Pour
Strain into a Tumbler glass, top with ice and garnish with a sprig of basil.
1:1 Simple syrup recipe
Stir 1 part white sugar to 1 part warm or boiling water until the sugar is dissolved. Cool before use.
