A man with a beard, wearing a dark blazer, holds a drink and looks at the camera in a warmly lit room with decorative letters on the wall behind him.

Within the bustling and vibrant cityscape of Mumbai nestle several trendy and vibrant bars, curating bespoke cocktails, reimagining indigenous and global spirits and coming up with eclectic experiences, designed specifically for the cocktail curioso. Leading one such experience in Mumbai, is drinks-preneur Aneesh Bhasin, a noted personality in the world of Indian mixology. Whisky Experiments, Mumbai in October 2025, took connoisseurs on an experiential and exclusive cocktail tour spread across different city hubs, from Worli to Bandra. At bar spaces like Aer, Bandra Born and Slink & Bardot, Bhasin introduced a mixology experience which looks at whisky cocktails anew and reimagines ways to work with Johnnie Walker Black Label

A commentator on wines, spirits, lifestyle and hospitality, Bhasin’s curatorial process is all about approaching classics in newer ways, that piques the interest of cocktail enthusiasts who are part of his experiential tours. Assisting on photography assignments, particularly covering wines and spirits, Bhasin cultivated a growing interest in liquors which has gradually translated into his present command over alcohol and mixology know-how. Today, Bhasin is most known for coming up with his own brand of premium tonic water.

In a conversation with The Bar, the cocktail enthusiast and spirit expert who rethinks newer ways of working with whiskies such as Johnnie Walker Black Label, talks about his creative process, cocktail cultures in India, and his most favourite cocktail blend.

What keeps you walking on this journey?

Well I think curiosity, that’s kept me walking about everything in life.

A hand holds a glass of dark liquid, likely an alcoholic beverage, over a wooden surface with blurred blue and orange lights in the background.

What is your creative process? Can you tell us about it?

I think it’s about learning, learning, learning. You learn something thoroughly and then you figure out how you want to break the rules.

What inspires you in your curatorial ventures?

There’s so much to see in the world, and again it’s just about learning and keep walking and keep discovering things.

Three glass bottles with stoppers, containing different colored liquids, are placed on a bar counter in front of metal cocktail shakers.

How do you push your boundaries, step out of the norm?

Step out of your comfort zone. I know it’s a cliché answer, but you have to step out of your comfort zone. That’s where fun happens.

How do you get involved and invested in curatorial projects?

It’s actually a very simple answer you know, the community is about drinking better and drinking together. And that’s what it comes down to.

Two people clink glasses of white wine garnished with grapes and leaves over a wooden tray, with a wine carafe and books visible on the table.

What excites you about cocktails in India?

The thing in India, the drinking culture is so vibrant now and we are as good as anywhere else in the world today. Which is very exciting.

How do you keep on going forward with your creative processes?

You travel, you meet new people and you learn about things.

A glass of brown beverage with ice and a salted rim sits on a dark surface, accompanied by a small bowl of snacks on a golden tray in the background.

What is your favourite cocktail?

A spirit-forward cocktail for me, so I would say a Boulevardier.

What is your favourite spirit?

Favourite spirit, I’ll actually say whisky.
