Vodka Beyond A Drink: The Spirit's Many Other Uses

Vodka is a popular spirit, hailed by mixologists for its versatility due to its flavourless, odourless qualities. But vodka is more than just a drink. Its uses go beyond the world of mixology!

Beyond its use in making drinks and cooking food, do you know it is used for common, everyday stuff like making an ice pack? The Russian-Polish liquor has great chemical properties which makes it, again, versatile, in our everyday life! Thus, vodka's utility varies from freshening laundry to acting as a repellent.

Below are some ways you never thought vodka could be put to use.

To Make An Ice Pack

Use vodka to make an ice pack. The technique is pretty easy. Mix 500 ml water with 120 ml vodka in a Ziploc freezer bag. The vodka prevents the ice from freezing completely thus helping to create a bendable ice pack.

To Freshen Up Laundry

If you are someone who takes home care seriously, then vodka is the liquor for you. And if you don't enjoy chores at home, you will still find vodka super helpful. Sometimes, the stains, dirt and sweat go away after a good spin in the washing machine, but the odour of stinky laundry lingers. Instead of repeating the washing process or buying expensive detergents, just spritz your duds with vodka and dry the clothes in a well-ventilated area.

To Preserve Flowers

Who doesn't love to add nature's beauty to their homes? Decorating your home with fresh flowers is an ageless decor tradition. But it is sad to see them wilt. Here's where vodka can help you.  Add a few drops of vodka and a teaspoon of sugar to the water in your flower vase. Change the water daily. Your flowers will remain in their bloom for a longer period.

To Clean Your Fixtures

Love a clean, spotless, shiny home? Then use vodka to clean your fixtures. Use a soft cloth and moisten it with vodka. Clean chrome, glass and porcelain fixtures with the cloth. They will get sparkly clean with your effort and the wonderful properties of vodka.

To Clean Mould

If you have mould in your house, that means trouble. Mould spreads very fast and makes the indoor air quality poorer. While chemical sprays can work against those grimy dark dangerous stains, why not opt for an eco-friendly solution? Use a recycled spray bottle and fill it with bottom-shelf vodka. Spritz on, then let sit for 15 minutes. Scrub the stain away using an old toothbrush.
