A curiously interesting innovation by the makers of an exquisite artisanal single malt, the Godawan Triple Cask Travel Exclusive is a spirit crafted especially for the global travel retail market. Inspired by the jaali woodwork of Rajasthan – a province which incidentally is also home to the godawan, or the great Indian bustard that remains a driving motif for the makers of this whisky – the Triple Cask positions itself as an ingenious alternative for celebratory moments or for gift giving.

Make And Appearance

What is most distinctive about the Triple Cask is that it is matured in traditional ex-bourbon barrels. Lending the exclusive touch to the spirit is the three-way process of finishing the drink in PX sherry butts, cherry wood and virgin oak casks. Lots of botanical flavours also seep into the making of this drink, providing it with the regional flair that remains its continued inspiration.

Such exquisite maturation and finishing lend this drink a deep golden-hued, faintly honey-like appearance. Even the bottle in which the Triple Cask presents itself alludes to the jaali craft inspiration and its deep flavours in the form of the intricate brownish golden woodwork featured on its label.

Taste And Aroma

This whisky distilled in the warm climes of the Alwar distillery in Rajasthan carries soft, fruity, honeyed notes, a gentle sweetness and a dessert spice. It is rich in its aroma and taste, offering a sophisticated and luxurious tasting experience to the more discerning traveller.

The spirit is crafted exclusively for the global journeyman, and is soon to be available at select duty-free stores at airports across several major cities. A carefully crafted 700 ml bottle of this single malt is a non-filtered chilled spirit with an ABV of 46%, distilled with long cuts, offering a smooth finish.

Underlying the making of Godawan’s imaginative single malt is its foray into the global travel market as it is a spirit that tries to make its presence known as a high-impact discovery product available for the frequent traveller in what is fast becoming a very interesting retail space.

Rajasthan’s Nuance

With a very silky, smooth finish, a nuanced flavour and a luxurious profile, the Godawan Triple Cask Travel Exclusive retains its traditional appeal which is immersed in the dunes of Rajasthan, its cultural heritage and its exquisite craftsmanship.

Made from six-row barley which is cultivated in the water deficient deserts of this region, the Godawan has already carved a spot for itself as a very distinct spirit from those single malts which are generally produced in areas with cool climes.

Now, with the advent of the Triple Cask, this single malt is once again becoming an interesting alternative for those with a refined palate who want to experience whiskies complete with this local, Indian expression.

In fact, at a time when collection, curation and conscious gifting rank high among the patrons of fine and luxurious liquors, the Triple Cask presents itself as an exclusive Indian single malt which symbolises regional craftsmanship, cultural storytelling and a spirit of collectibility.

A smoky cocktail in a clear glass garnished with a large citrus peel sits on a bar counter, with visible steam rising from the drink.

The Triple Cask is then meant for whisky connoisseurs who are also frequent travellers, as it marks its entry into an up and coming market. Its terroir-led, craft-driven philosophy can manage to make a space for itself amidst an international space where consumers are looking for novel and collectible expressions.

The Triple Cask offers this and more, because with premium craftsmanship, it also brings in a new dimension of flavour and depth which nonetheless carries the essence of the region from where it emerges in a rather purposeful manner.
