One of the popular ingredients that is used often for preparing summertime drinks to infuse them with floral, fragrant accents is rose. It is incorporated into drinks in the form of syrups and liqueurs which lend a very elegant and sophisticated finish to these cocktail blends.

Adding rose syrups or liqueurs in drinks means building on one’s cocktail roster to gradually expand the repository of such imaginative blends complete with complex flavours and depth.

Read on below for a handy guide to using rose syrups and liqueurs in drinks for building one’s cocktail repertoire:

As A Floral Accent

Most often than not, floral ingredients are incorporated into drinks to give them a touch of aromatic character. Such is the case with rose liqueurs and rose syrups too. Add a dash of rose liqueur to floral cocktails like a rendition of the gin and tonic made out of Tanqueray No. 10 Gin or any other premium gin of choice. With this, the drink will acquire just a hint of a floral touch without this aspect becoming too overpowering. This means, rose will remain an accent added to the cocktail instead of becoming an overwhelming core ingredient.

Infuse With Herbs And Spices For Depth

When rose syrup is infused with the flavours of different herbs such as mint or thyme, the process infuses deeper and more complex tasting notes into this ingredient. Rose syrup infused with thyme carries a mix of herbal, sweet and aromatic characteristics which build a lot of depth into any drink.

Rose liqueurs can also be infused with spices such as cinnamon or cardamom that undercut some of the sweeter notes of the liqueur to bring about a fine flavour balance, well-suited to blends such as a rose and cardamom vodka smash crafted using 30 ml Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice.

Muddle With Fresh Fruits

Generally, juicy and crispy fruits tend to blend well with floral ingredients. Rose liqueurs or rose syrups can be muddled with different fresh fruits such as berries, oranges or even pineapples to infuse fragrant and aromatic accents into tropical drinks. Add rose to a classic pineapple colada recipe complete with 30 ml Don Julio Blanco Tequila or any other premium tequila of choice to bring a rosy, floral complexity into this favoured creamy and dense tropical cocktail.

Pair With Complimentary Spirits

Another interesting way to incorporate rose syrup and liqueur in cocktails is by choosing the right kind of spirits. As a floral ingredient, rose tends to go well with the smoky touch of tequila, the caramelised hints of a good Scotch whisky, the crisp, savoury taste of gin and the bubbly effervescence of champagne. Add rose syrup to cocktails like a rosy French 75 built using quality Tanqueray No. 10 Gin or any other premium gin of choice, and a premium champagne so its floral flavours will be highlighted in the drink.

Balance Using Citrusy Ingredients

While using rose syrups in drinks sounds like an interesting alternative to build a more sophisticated flavour and nuance into cocktails, balancing their sweet flavours with other ingredients can prove tricky. For achieving this fine flavour combination, blend rose syrup with citrusy ingredients such as grapefruit juice, lemon soda or lime juice to infuse acidity and undercut the floral, overly sweet tasting notes. Prepare a luxurious vodka and rose smash in this manner using 30 ml Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice and 15 ml freshly squeezed lime juice.
