Since 1794
Oban
Small but Mighty
Oban - which is a Gaelic word meaning "Little Bay" - is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. By choice.
Never expanding or moving from its original location - just 208 steps from the sea - the Oban distillery centres tradition over everything. And why would they move away from the same centuries-old process or using the same water from a loch three miles away when they've produced the same enduring, award-winning liquid?
HOW TO ENJOY OBAN?
Best enjoyed from a traditional whisky glass, neat or with a little still water.
One constant in a world of change
Sitting at sea level, Oban's distillery has been a constant for over two centuries.
Indeed, when brothers Hugh and John Stevenson built it in 1794, there was no town. The town was built around Oban whisky, proving that the heritage and heartbeat of the Highlands location is in each drop.
What does Oban taste like?
The Oban distillery could speed up their centuries-old process to create more whisky each year, but if they shortened the time in the washback’s the whisky would lose the fruity character, and if they ran the stills harder, faster or hotter they would lose the gentle character.
Quality. Not Quantity.
Oban 14 - Balances autumn fruits and sea air, Oban 14 owes its rich and rewarding Highland character to its very long fermentation process.
Little Bay - Offers fruity richness and a deep smoothness with the signature distillery character of citrus and sea salt.
