Grog Cocktail Recipe

Rum

Grog

The term "grog" is most often heard in films about pirates or old sea bears, which is no coincidence, as the original drink made with water and rum was primarily consumed by sailors and naval crews, and its history dates back to the great voyages and adventures of the sea.

Modern versions of the drink are still found in Western cultures today: typically consumed in winter, they are often supplemented with hot water and flavoured with lemon juice, cinnamon or sugar, in addition to the rum base.

With all this in mind, the Grog cocktail goes back to the beginning, but turns the original concept into a literally much "cooler" drink that always "goes big" at gatherings of friends: with a delicious spiced rum (Yes, Captain Morgan!), lime, honey and a hint of bitter... poured over ice!

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
2 units of alcohol per serving

Equipment

  • 1 x Rock glass
  • 1 x Bar spoon
  • 1 x Cocktail shaker
  • 1 x Chopping Board
  • 1 x Ice
  • 1 x Knife
  • 1 x Strainer

Method

Ice

Add ice cubes to a cocktail shaker.

Pour

Scoop runny honey from a jar into the shaker. Add Captain Morgan Original Spiced, lime juice and Angostura bitters. Using a bar spoon, scoop out a full spoon of runny honey and place in a cocktail shaker, along with 50ml Captain Morgan Original Spiced, 15ml lime juice and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

Mix

Shake the mixture until the shaker feels cold.

Garnish

Pour the liquid through a cocktail strainer into a Rocks glass. Using a sharp knife, cut a slice of lemon and place on the glass rim to garnish.
