Negroni

Gin
Author: The Bar Team
A negroni cocktail with a spiral orange peel garnish.

The negroni is one of the most famous equal-parts cocktails, created around 1919 in Florence. The lovely red drink is bitter enough to be interesting yet easy to drink, thanks in large part to the smooth flavor of Tanqueray London Dry Gin.

What you’ll need:

Ingredients:

Serves:
1
  • Tanqueray London Dry Gin
    1oz
  • Sweet Vermouth
    1oz
  • Italian Bitter Aperitif
    1oz
  • Orange Twist
    To garnish

*Approximate serving size is 1.5 servings. Please enjoy responsibly.

Equipment

  • Old-fashioned glass
  • Jigger
  • Knife or peeler
  • Bar spoon

Method

Step 1

Using a sharp knife and a cutting board, remove a long slice of orange skin, leaving as little pith on the peel as possible. Gently curl into a twist and set aside

Step 2

Combine gin, sweet vermouth and Italian bitter aperitif in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice.

Step 3

Stir until combined and strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube.

Step 4

Twist the orange peel over the drink to express the oils, then add as garnish.

A delicious aperitif, this Italian equal-parts cocktail is easy to make, stimulates the appetite and is built with just three ingredients.

A table set with a cheese and fruit platter, shrimp cocktail, drink with orange peel, breadsticks, and a vase of red flowers against a dark floral-patterned wall.
