Caribbean Rum Cask Finish is a limited-edition offering created by Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky in partnership with long-time partner Nick Offerman. The 11 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was finished for a little over 8 months in casks that previously held Caribbean Rum, infusing a symphony of sweet smoke that marries the notes of the tropics with the peaty elixir of Islay.

Inspired by Nick's deep-seated affinity for maritime adventure, Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Caribbean Rum Cask Finish isn’t just a whisky – it's a journey across seas and flavors. The new bottling combines notes from the Caribbean, a region close to Nick’s heart, with the flavors of the southernmost part of Islay in Western Scotland, home of the Lagavulin distillery, to create a sweet yet smoky whisky that is unlike any Lagavulin before it. Crafted with the precision of a seasoned captain navigating choppy seas, this Single Malt is aged for 11 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then finished for over 8 months in ex-Caribbean Rum casks. A symphony of sweet and smoky flavors transport sippers to the distant Caribbean and Scottish isles combined within this liquid.

With notes of lemon meringue, honey, vanilla, toffee, golden cinnamon and a maritime brine, Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Caribbean Rum Cask Finish perfectly balances tropical flavor and peaty character. Offerman’s collection of limited-edition whiskies with Lagavulin reflect his passions, favorite flavor profiles and places he loves to venture. With the fourth release, Nick sought to immortalize his expeditions through a bottle label that intricately depicts a journey through Caribbean sunshine, rough and stormy seas, and leagues in between to craft a dram that fuses the citrusy, maritime flavor influence of rum, anchored by Lagavulin’s home on Islay, the capital of peated, smoky whiskies.

Get to know Lagavulin

Lagavulin is said to be one of the oldest distilleries on Islay and is world-renowned for its smoky, peaty whiskies. The windswept Isle of Islay instils a strength of character into everything it produces and it's there, nestled in a small bay that the beloved Lagavulin whisky has been made for over 200 years.

Distillery

Miles and miles of peat bog in the west of the island provide the raw material which imbues the barley with that distinct smoky flavor. Not to mention the rich peaty water that runs down the brown burn from the Solan Lochs and into the distillery. In case you haven’t figured it out, the smoky, peated Lagavulin 16 is seen as the ultimate expression of this region.

History

There have been distilleries at Lagavulin since the 18th century; though it wasn’t until 1816 that farmer John Johnston founded the first legal operation. A year later a second distillery appeared, this one run by Archibald Campbell. The two were united under a Glasgow trader, and in 1887, Peter Mackie arrived at the distillery, under whose guiding hand the distillery, and the name Lagavulin, was to become the last word in Islay malt.
