Almond Shirley Cocktail

Author: Ashifa Bano
Three glasses of pink raspberry cocktails, each garnished with whole raspberries, on a dark surface with scattered raspberries and water droplets.

The almond Shirley cocktail has a balanced and bright taste, with a superb flavour profile from its key ingredients. The use of grenadine is especially noticeable, infusing the drink with a visually beautiful, appealing red hue that complements its spirited character. Best consumed chilled, it is often served in a highball glass garnished with a lemon wedge, adding to its fruity appeal.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

Serves:
1
  • Vodka
    30ml
  • Grenadine
    20ml
  • Fresh lemon juice
    25ml
  • Ice cubes
    For shaking
  • Lime wedge
    For garnish

Method

  1. Step 1

Fill a highball glass with ice and set aside.

  2. Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, grenadine and fresh lemon juice.

  3. Step 3

Add ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the surface is well cooled and frosted.

  4. Step 4

Strain the contents into a prepared highball glass, garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Ensure that the ingredients are pre-chilled in the refrigerator, allowing for less ice usage, preserving flavour assertiveness and reducing dilution.

  • Instead of a lime wedge, use a long, thin ribbon peel from fresh lime. Twist it hard over the drink to release its essential oils, then drop it in or hang it from the edge of the glass.
