Moscow Mule Cocktail: 5 Tips To Prep A Batch Cocktail Without Losing Fizz

One of the classic recipes prepared as a batch cocktail for parties, the moscow mule brings together ginger beer and vodka in a mix of fizzy textures and crisp flavours. This drink has a slightly spicy and peppery quality that comes from the ginger beer when it is infused into a clear spirit like vodka. With a mint leaf garnish, the drink also acquires a touch of sharpness that builds into its overall profile.

Simple to prepare and requiring just a handful of ingredients, the moscow mule is undoubtedly one of the more favoured cocktails to prepare at a house party. Yet, retaining the fizzy and sparkling texture of this drink which gives it the classic mule effect can be a tad tricky.

Read on below to know more about some of the ways in which the moscow mule cocktail can be prepared in large batches for a gathering without losing its fizz:

Mix Ingredients Ahead Of Time

While preparing batch cocktails for a gathering of 8-10 people, one of the best ways to be ready with all the prep ahead of time is to mix the ingredients before guests start arriving. Bring together ¾ cup lime juice, ¼ cup simple syrup (for those who prefer a sweeter version) and a bunch of mint leaves in a large bowl. Muddle the mint leaves so they release their juices into the ingredient mix, infusing it with sharp, peppery flavours. To this, add 250 ml Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka or any other premium vodka of choice that will serve 8-10 people. Once the ingredients are put together, refrigerate them until it is time to build the cocktail.

Chill Ginger Beer Separately

Another hack involved in this process is keeping the ginger beer chilled. Sealed bottles of ginger beer can be stored in the fridge for cooling until the very last minute. Bring out the ginger beer bottles only when guests start arriving and it is time to build the cocktail so that the mixer can be added to the vodka and lime blend. With this, it will be possible to retain the fizz in the ginger beer while keeping it chilled.

Serve Build-Style At The Bar

Once all the ingredients are prepped, chilled and ready, put the cocktail together ‘build-style’ at the bar to retain its fizz. The reason behind prepping other ingredients first essentially revolves around preserving the sparkly texture of ginger beer that will be tapered out if it is kept open for too long. Instead, add 15 ml of the prepared mixture to a cocktail glass filled with ice and top it off with 60 ml ginger beer to serve this cocktail at the bar.

Use A Large Punch Bowl

And if one wants to mix ginger beer into the mixture of lime juice, simple syrup, vodka and mint all at once, one of the best ways to do so without losing out on the fizz is to stir this base with ice in a large punch bowl. Right before serving, add to this mix about 500 ml ginger beer to make a cocktail that serves 8-10 people. Using a ladle, serve gently without nudging the fizz too much. Another alternative is to use a small tapped beer keg so the mixture can be added to a serving glass using the tap, with the fizz thus remaining intact.

Add Large Ice Cubes

While preparing the moscow mule as a batch cocktail, use large ice cubes that will slow down the dilution process. With this, it will be possible to keep the drink chilled and it will simultaneously retain the flavours of the mixture and ginger beer. Big ice cubes also contain the fizz better in sparkling cocktails so they can be prepared in large batches without losing out on their characteristic feature.
