Black Magic

This shimmering black cocktail is made using black vodka.

Ingredients

60 ml Vodka

45 ml Cherry Juice (Deep red colour)

30 ml Orange Juice

100 ml Maraschino Cherry Syrup (Liquid in the Maraschino Cherry Jar)

pinch of Pearl Dust

Ice

Orange peel or Maraschino cherries, for garnish

Method

Take a shaker, add black vodka and rest of the ingredients. Using a bar spoon, add ice and stir until the cocktail is chilled or for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange peel or maraschino cherries. If the cocktail doesn't get a black hue and instead gets a brown colour, then make a concoction with 75 ml cherry juice and skip orange juice.

Midnight Fog Cocktail

The Midnight Fog Cocktail is a perfect fit for any Halloween party. It's a bourbon-based cocktail with a homemade rosemary spiced cola syrup that adds a sweet and spicy flavour to the drink. The cocktail is well-balanced with a hint of lemon juice and Angostura bitters.

The addition of activated charcoal powder gives the drink its jet black colour and a dry ice pellet adds a spooky smoking effect.

Ingredients

For The Rosemary Spiced Cola Syrup

750 ml Cola

3 Cloves

3 Cardamom pods

2 whole Star Anise

1 large Cinnamon stick

a sprig of fresh Rosemary

For The Cocktail

45 ml Bourbon

15 ml Scotch

15 ml Rosemary Spiced Cola Syrup

15 ml Lemon Juice

a dash of Angostura Bitters

1/8 teaspoon Activated Charcoal Powder, to make the drink black

Dry ice pellets, for garnish

Method

For The Rosemary Spiced Cola Syrup

Take a saucepan over medium heat and add all the ingredients in it. Bring the contents to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Let the contents cool and then strain it into a clean jar or bottle. Store it in the fridge until ready to use.

For The Cocktail

Take a mixing glass with ice and add all ingredients except activated charcoal powder in it. Stir well until the contents are chilled. Add activated charcoal powder and stir. Strain the contents into a coupe glass. To give fogginess to the drink, add a small bit of dry ice to the drink. Ensure dry ice is completely evaporated. The drink should be consumed after the bubbling and smoking stops.

The Witch's Heart

Ingredients

For The Blackberry Shimmery Liqueur

120 ml Smirnoff Vodka

3 Blackberries, fresh or frozen

30 ml Simple Syrup

1/10th teaspoon Pearl Dust

A drop of Purple Food Colour

For The Cocktail

45 ml Homemade Blackberry Shimmery Liqueur, chilled

20 ml Apple Juice or Apple Liqueur, chilled

15 ml Lemon Juice

10 ml Simple Syrup

1 teaspoon Grenadine

Ice

Dry ice, finely crushed

Method

For The Blackberry Shimmery Liqueur

Take a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Add blackberries in the jar and close the lid. Steep for a week in the fridge. Set up sous vide to 54°C (a container with water heated to 54°C). Take the vodka and blackberry mixture in a freezer or ziploc bag with a tight seal. Lower the bag slowly into the sous vide. The pressure of the water forces the air through the top of the bag. Once the air is out of the bag, seal it just above the water line. Let the bag stay submerged in the sous vide for 2 hours. Remove the bag from the sous vide and let it cool before using/storage. Strain the infused vodka into a different jar using a cheesecloth-lined sieve, discard the solid remnants. Do not press the blackberries through the sieve. The vodka should be clear and have a purple colour. Add simple syrup and purple dust, mix to combine. The liqueur should have shimmer after stirring. Add a drop of purple food colour so it gets deep purple hue.

For The Cocktail

Take a martini glass and add dry ice. Take a shaker with ice and add all the ingredients except the grenadine, and shake well until the drink gets chilled. Strain the drink into the martini glass. Add the grenadine syrup, it should sink to the bottom to give a bleeding effect. You can add more dry ice on top and serve with a stirrer so that the guests can stir the 'potion', and create a shimmery, smoky effect.
