Guava Cocktail: Recreate This Fruity-Spicy Drink At Home With Key Preparation Tips

Mixology Basics

As the summers reach their tail-end, a great way to extend the feel of the tropics is by making drinks that are reminiscent of spending vacations by the beach – but from the comfort of your home. For amateur mixologists, experimenting with fresh produce, especially fruit can be quite a fulfilling experience – since minimal effort yields major results in terms of flavour as well as aesthetics.

Making cocktails with pulpy fruits like guavas – pink or white – are a great way to create an impression of boosting a concoction’s profile with the use of easily available ingredients and a few foolproof tweaks. Cocktails like the guava breeze deliver exactly what they promise – fruity vibrancy and innovative, layered flavours which can be replicated for single servings as well as for batch drinks – depending on the occasion. Here’s how you can make this guava cocktail at home.

Ingredients [Serves 1]

  • 60 ml guava juice

  • 30 ml white rum

  • 15 ml lime juice

  • 15 ml simple syrup

  • Club soda, for top up

  • Ice cubes

  • Lime wedge/guava slice, for garnish

Method

  • In an ice-filled shaker, add the guava juice, white rum, lime juice and simple syrup.

  • Shake vigorously to combine for 15-20 seconds, or until the surface of the shaker is cool to touch.

  • Strain into a coupe glass and top up with club soda; garnish with a wedge of lime and serve.

Key Tips To Make The Guava Cocktail

  • Freeze the pulp of the guava to make a slushie-like version of the drink that is ideal to serve for an outdoor, daytime gathering.

  • Replace white rum with tequila to make a margarita version of the guava cocktail or simply omit the alcohol for a mocktail version of the drink.

  • For added aesthetic value and flavour, use a chilli-salt rim on the serving glass; alternately muddling a few slices of jalapeno before adding cocktail ingredients to the shaker ensures a layer of spice in each sip.

  • Swap white rum for coconut rum to fortify the tropical flavours of the drink or use a high quality coconut liqueur by reducing the quantity of rum in the cocktail.

  • While fresh guava juice is most ideal to use for the cocktail, store-bought variants would do just fine if one does not have access to fresh fruit.
