Diageo Launches Don Julio In India

Diageo India, one of the country's foremost beverage alcohol companies, has brought the iconic Don Julio tequila to the country. The luxury spirit was launched via star-studded events in Mumbai and Gurgaon. Some of the celebrities who attended the parties were Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, Nia Sharma, Pooja Gor, Anuradha Menon and Dipannita Sharma, among others. The events underlined the legacy of Don Julio, and celebrated the Mexican heritage brought over through his spirits.

Don Julio's portfolio that is being introduced to India consists of Don Julio Blanco, Don Julio Reposado and Don Juilo Anejo, and the statement-making luxury spirit Don Julio 1942. A little about each of the spirits below:

Don Julio Blanco

A favourite of top mixologists, this spirit effuses hints of citrus. It is popularly used to make palomas and margaritas.

Don Julio Reposado

A tequila famous for its subtle and elegant flavours. The citrus notes and layers of spice and inkling of ripe stone fruit, makes this spirit simply exquisite.

Don Julio Anejo

This tequila is known for its complex flavour profile composed of a blend of lime, grapefruit, mandarin and citrus aromas with a rich touch of caramel.

Don Julio 1942

A homage to the man behind the tequila brand, this spirit, celebrates Don Julio's craft and attention to detail. It has a rich flavour that consists of notes of caramel and chocolate on the nose, heady flavours of tropical fruit, warm oak, vanilla, and roasted agave on the tongue.

Diageo India's Chief Business Development Officer Shweta Jain spoke about what Don Julio signifies to the world and how India has come of age to embrace luxury beverages. “Tiera de Don Julio is not just the vibrant world of Tequila, it’s a love letter to Mexican culture. It has been the serve of choice for luxury explorers around the world, and it gives us so much joy to bring it to India. Don Julio is crafted with love and at its heart is a creation process which can be savoured when sipped neat or as a Don Paloma, Margherita or a Picante. This iconic launch is here to revolutionise India’s luxury landscape. Por amor!” Jain said on the eve of the launch.

The founder of the tequila brand, Don Julio Gonzalez, indeed tended to the making of the spirit. He started his first tequila distillery, La Primavera, in the Jaliscan Highlands of Mexico with its extreme climate and rich volcanic soil. Then, for 40 years, he dedicated his life to making the best tequilas around the world. It is this devotion of Don Julio to making the finest spirit and the Mexican heritage of teuila, which are being celebrated as the brand launches in India.

The launch of this brand is significant as India too is seeing a rise in the consumption of luxury food and beverages. The timing of Don Julio's tequila reaching Indian shores is truly impeccable.

Don Julio Blanco and Don Julio Reposado are available in the markets in Haryana, Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Goa. Don Julio Anejo and Don Julio 1942 will be available from December 18, 2023. Cheers to the new year, new liquors and (responsible) new explorations!
