In 1858, a man named John Landis Mason registered a famous patent for a glass jar with a handle and a lid that can be screwed on top to secure food and drinks. Though glass jars had existed before then, the design patented by Mason was safer to handle and travel with while also making storage much easier. Thus, was born the Mason jar, which is now sold across the world even though Mason’s original patent expired long back. Today, this little glass utensil is so popular that in the US, there’s also a whole day dedicated to it.

Every year now, November 30 is celebrated as National Mason Jar Day to celebrate this incredibly designed jar that holds everything from our food to shakes together. Of course, you might be using Mason jars at home and elsewhere to carry layered salads, noodle and pasta meals, or even beverages like shakes, smoothies and more. But did you know that you can also serve cocktails in mason jars with utter ease and carry them around with utter ease?

This National Mason Jar Day, here are a few cocktails that you can whip up and serve in Mason jars and sip on when you feel like it.

Floral, citrusy and utterly delicious, the Elderflower Collins is a twist on the classic Tom Collins cocktail. What makes it perfect for a Mason jar? Well, the rustic charm of the jar complements the floral look of the cocktail to the hilt, with its ultimate presentation capable of transporting you to a summery, breezy countryside park. To make this cocktail, take a mason jar and mix 50ml gin, 25ml elderflower cordial, 25ml freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a dash of soda water. Add ice and stir well. Garnish with a lemon wedge and a sprig of fragrant elderflower.

2. Raspberry Lemonade

If you are looking for the perfect non-alcoholic mocktail to serve in a mason jar, then look no further. The simple but delicious Raspberry Lemonade, when served in mason jars, is both visually appealing and delicious. What’s more, crafting it is easier than you may think. In a jar, combine 100g fresh raspberries that have been muddled a little, 100ml freshly squeezed lemon juice, 50g caster sugar, and 500ml cold water. The best part is, apart from getting freshly brewed apple cider, you can also get plenty of red or green apple slices to infuse into this one. To make this cocktail, combine 500ml apple cider, 250ml white wine, 100ml brandy, sliced apples, oranges, and a cinnamon stick in a large mason jar.
