5 Best Whisky Sundowner Cocktails To Add To Your Party Menu

Your classic sundowner cocktails are characterised by a balance of sweet and flavourful ingredients that spell sheer elegance and sophistication. In fact, sundowner parties are also held at a time of day which is quite mellow. So cocktails crafted during this hour can be those which suit the colours and vibe thrown off during this in-between period.

Often people assume this means fruity cocktails with sweet and floral notes are the need of the hour, and tend to steer towards clear spirits such as gin or vodka. But if you choose carefully, whisky too has a place among your late afternoon libations. The key it to pick a whisky that offers a complex but light palate that doesn’t lean too far into the smoky notes that whisky is often known for, and which are better suited to evening events. Something like a Johnnie Walker Blonder or any other complex blended Scotch which offers notes of fruitiness and spice work well with these sundowner cocktail options.

Citrus Whisky Spritz

A summertime take on the classic whisky highball, this drink brings together the tropical, fruity palate of the blended Scotch with the crisp effervescence of soda in a light yet flavourful blend.

Ingredients:

  • 20 ml Johnnie Walker Blonde or any other blended Scotch whisky

  • 10 ml orange liqueur

  • 30 ml fresh orange juice

  • 15 ml sparkling water

  • Ice as required

  • Orange wheel for garnish

Method:

– In a cocktail shaker with ice, bring together 20 ml Johnnie Walker Blonde or any other blended Scotch whisky, 10 ml orange liqueur and 30 ml fresh orange juice. Shake well before transferring into a tall highball glass filled with ice. Top it off with 15 ml sparkling water and garnish with an orange wheel.
