- When you're getting supplies for your party, remember to pick up some snacks for your guests (unsalted if possible). Food slows down the body's alcohol consumption. Water and soft drinks should be there so that your guests can pace themselves.
- One of the most important tips about responsible drinking is simple-know how much you're drinking. A standard drink is 12 ounces of beer, five ounces of wine or one and a half ounces of distilled spirits. Although the amount of liquid in each drink is different, the amount of alcohol is the same.
- If you're doing the pouring at your party, remember: Don't top off your guests' glasses. You're not doing them any favors because they won't be able to see how much they've been drinking and make responsible choices.
- Keep your eye out for any guest who might have had too much to drink and plans to drive home. Don't let this happen. Take their keys away or please call a taxi.
- Show some love for the designated drivers. In addition to making sure there's plenty of soda and water at the party, you may want to prepare a few non-alcoholic drinks.
- If you have bartenders or servers at your party, make sure you talk to them before the party starts. Remind them not to push alcohol. Less is better than more-if your guests want another drink, they can just ask for one.
