A Tale of Two Mixers: How to Make Simple Syrup & Sour Mix
Simple Syrup
Creating the perfect cocktail is all about balancing flavors within your drink. The sweet taste of simple syrup is often used to even out the bitter taste of citrus in many cocktails. It's also useful for balancing the flavor of sour liqueurs and spirits. Simple syrup is used in popular drinks like the Planter's Punch and the Mojito. It's also used in Toddies and Sangria, and is commonly used as a sweetener in Gimlets and Daiquiris.
MAKE SIMPLE SYRUP
Mix equal parts boiling water and sugar. Stir sugar and water together until the sugar dissolves.
Sour Mix
Like simple syrup, sour mix is used to balance out flavors in a cocktail. You'll need sour mix to make a Whiskey Sour, Kamikaze, Tom Collins, Long Island Iced Tea and many more popular drinks.
PUCKER UP AND MAKE SOUR MIX
Mix equal parts lemon or lime juice with simple syrup and shake with ice.
Tip:
Prepare mixers beforehand and leave them out for your guests to try
